On Saturday, September 24th, the harbour
of Puerto Portals hosted a fantastic event
in which SOS Animal, an non-profit organisation,
created in 1995 and aimed at sheltering
and helping abandoned animals, collected
the sum of 6,892 euros. The beneficial
event offered various activities, such
as a show contest for "the merriest
crossbreed", a painting contest for
children, a flea market, a raffle with
attractive prizes and live music.
Around 300 people joined to collaborate
with SOS Animal. Around 3 p.m. the event
started with the inscription of 65 dogs
of different originsfor participation
in the contest for "the merriest
crossbreed".Shortly after, the candidates
for the first prizes, accompanied by their
proud owners, began to march past the
red carpet and in front of the jury. Among
the contest's criteria were: style at
the time of presentation, originality,
coordination between dog and owner.
After a preselection of ten candidates,
finally three dogs could jump on to the
podium: Rico, Benny and Nina. In addition
the jury dedicated a special prize to
Zak.
From the hands of Kate Mentenink, Councilwoman
for Tourism of Calvià, the owners
of the winning mascots could take their
trophies, plus a lot of dog accessories
and dog food, which they, in their majority,
yielded to SOS Animal and dogs in greater
need. In this show contest, dogs shared
protagonism with the children, that predominated
the multitudinal public.
Simultaneously,
a children painting contest was held,
so the little ones had their share of
action in this beautiful Puerto Portals
afternoon. Further on, on a stage specially
erected for the occasion, a dance contest
attracted a large public of parents and
fans. All in all, the day was a success
for the public and for solidarity with
animals.
