Spanish and foreign nationals who cared for the welfare of animals created the association of SOS Animal 1995 on Mallorca. The cruelty, neglect and the lack of understanding with regard to domestic animals created the cause for the establishment of such an association. Today eleven years later SOS Animal has established itself as the representative for the rights and protection of animals.

After supporting for several years different animal pounds, in 1998, SOS Animal reached a contractual agreement with the municipality of Calvia. This contract, at that time unique on Mallorca specified that abandoned and stray dogs are not killed as had been generally accepted after three weeks. It was agreed that the persons responsible of the municipality of Calvia decided, in agreement with the association of SOS Animal, the fate of the animals. The association of SOS Animal makes every effort to find new homes for all the animals brought in to the Calvia kennels, feeding caring for and housing them until this aim can be achieved. This agreement has already saved the lives of innumerable animals.
