Another successful "Day of Solidarity" at the Puerto Portals harbour

September 23rd was the date and Puerto Portals the venue for another day of solidarity with animal rights that SOS Animal of Calvià had organized. Thanks to the efforts of our many volunteers, this year's party, the fourth consecutive one, turned out to be a full success. The audience had grown considerably again, the number of participants at the contest too, the raffle and flea market had even more attractive prizes this year. In the end, all this contributed to another record balance in our cashiers vault.

Duck-throwing in Can Picafort ! !

For years in Can Picafort at the annual celebration in August of"Mare de Deu" an inhumane tradition has taken place. The high point of the festivities each year is the so called "Suelta de Patos" the duck throwing.
Live ducks are thrown from boats into the sea. The participants then jump in after them and fight with one another for the ducks. Needless to say many ducks are injured or killed in the skirmishes.
Due the efforts of SOS Animal this tradition was officially banned some years ago. Nevertheless the organisers supported by the Mayor of Can Picafort chose to continue this appalling tradition electing to pay the fine rather than changing to imitation ducks. However this year our efforts seem to have led to imitation ducks being used.

Abandoned

Some days ago, there was quite an addition to our little shelter, when some foreigners apparently returning to their country, abandoned their four-legged friends.Sadly this happens quite frequently. However this case was extreme. In the empty rooms of the apartment we found 12 (twelve) dogs, including one mother with four puppies! Naturally, we took them all to the shelter and gave them the care and attention they needed. Nevertheless due to the trauma the had endured they are still very nervous. If their irresponsibleowners had had the courage to bring their animals to the shelter, these dogs would have been free for adoption immediately. Being abandoned and not signed over to the shelter by law they will have to wait two weeks before we can offer them to new (and more responsible) owners.

Active aids searched

A lot of our animals find new homes in Germany due to our internet site. However we are always looking for foster homes for an interim period until they can be transferred to their new homes. We also need transportation crates and carrying baskets.
On German flights animals can be carried free with a fare paying passenger we are always looking for flight "god parents".
If you would like to help by organising, a collection, coffee morning or any other event we would be most grateful. If you would like to help us in any way please send us an e-mail. We welcome any ideas and input, there is much to do.

SOS Animal collects more than 6,800 Euros in it's day of solidarity in Puerto Portals
Last year SOS Animal collected more than 6,800 euros at it's annual fund raising event In Puerto Portals. The harbour of Puerto Portals hosted a fantastic event. This event offered numerous activities including a contest for the "merriest crossbreed dog", children's painting competition, second chance designer clothes, bric a brac and flea market, grand tombola and superb live music.
SOS Animal is a none profit making organisation, created in 1995 aimed at sheltering, treating and helping abandoned animals. Please help us to achieve our aims. ........
